This article presents the results of an investigation that addressed the strengthening of reading comprehension. The general objective was to use the children's story as a didactic strategy for the strengthening of reading comprehension in students of grade 1-1, of Ciudad de Pasto Municipal Educational Institution, afternoon section, period III. The paradigm was qualitative, with a hermeneutical and participatory approach. The application of didactic workshops of diagnosis, development and evaluation with four children's stories strengthened the reading comprehension and, therefore, their performances of low level and basic to high and superior. The theoretical pillars that contributed significantly in this research were: Isabel Solé, Calixto Gutiérrez-Braojos and Honorio Salmerón, among others.
