Among the pedagogical contributions of the illustrious teacher and educator Agustin Nieto Caballero (Bo-gotá, Colombia 1889-1975), the implementation of a new paradigm focused on educational project leading to the radical transformation of the school in Colombia stands out. This article develops, as subtopics, two conceptual categories that allow recreate the pedagogical thinking of Nieto Caballero: Teacher and training and sense of what the school should be, inspired by the principles of the “New School” as tendency educa-tion and teaching at the time.This article is a reflection, a result of the document review on the educator said, using the methodology of history of ideas, with the overall objective to recognize the importance and significance of his educational proposal in the current Colombian and Latin American educational context, encouraging a critical reflection on the pedagogical ideas of the author. Moreover, considering the postulates of Nieto Caballero constitutes an opportunity to improve educational practices of teachers, in changing, troubled and uncertain contexts that characterizes the learning processes of the moment.
