Occupational stress and musculoskeletal symptomatology in nursing, administrative, and medical assistants of a social enterprise in the State of Nariño, Colombia

The study aimed to determine the relationship between perceived work stress and musculoskeletal symptomatology in nursing, administrative, and medical assistants of a state social enterprise. Methodology: A study with a quantitative approach; descriptive, correlational, and transversal type of study; the population consisted of 34 subjects including nursing, administrative, and medical assistants. Results: The socio-demographic characterization showed that 85.3% of the population were women; 76.5% were from the urban sector; 70.6% had an employment contract through a service contract; 52.9% worked up to eight hours a day; the classification of perceived work stress showed that 82.4% of the population reported low levels of stress. In musculoskeletal symptomatology it was found that 94.1% had it and that of these, 73.5% had neck symptomatology. In the association between perceived job stress and musculoskeletal symptomatology, the analysis showed p-values > 0.05. Regarding the association between the variables of musculoskeletal symptomatology and symptomatology in the neck, shoulder, dorsolumbar, elbow, hand, musculoskeletal, and job change, the analysis reported p-values < 0.05. Conclusions: The presence of musculoskeletal pain was demonstrated in the spine area, mainly in the cervical area, which is common in healthcare workers.
