The main objective of the research project was to strengthen study habits through the implementation of a pedagogical strategy of autonomous work with second-grade students of the Institución Educativa Rural Aborígenes de Colombia, Escuela Rural Mixta Yunguillo in the municipality of Mocoa, Putumayo. The first specific objective was to characterize the current state of the students’ study habits; the initial approach showed that they did not have adequate study habits that would allow them to improve their educational processes. Therefore, the second specific objective was to develop a pedagogical strategy with autonomous work to strengthen study habits that would effectively contribute to the development of educational skills in children. The third specific objective was to evaluate the impact of the autonomous work pedagogical strategy on the students’ study habits, which significantly improved their learning. The methodology was based on a qualitative paradigm, with a critical social approach and action research; eleven students participated. For each specific objective, deductive categories (interview) were identified from which subcategories emerged. Subsequently, guiding questions were asked to obtain information from the fieldwork; for the collection of information, interview, observation, field diary, and questionnaire were used. It can be concluded that study habits - time planning, autonomy in the learning process, and attitude towards learning - positively strengthen the academic level.
