Deaf people communicate with each other through sign language and with hearing people through an interpreter. It should be noted that most of the hearing population has made little effort to establish channels of communication with deaf people; therefore, there are communication barriers between the two groups. In this sense, we propose to analyze the perspective of hearing people on communication with deaf people. For this purpose, a quantitative research of non-experimental and cross-sectional design was developed. The technique used was the survey; the instrument was the questionnaire called ‘Proyecto de sensibilización sobre las necesidades de comunicación de la comunidad Sorda del Ecuador’, consisting of seven questions. This questionnaire was specifically designed by the researchers for this purpose. The results show that most of the respondents are aware that deaf people can use an interpreter to communicate with hearing people; slightly more than half of the respondents consider that this measure meets their communication needs. In addition, most of the respondents expressed their willingness to learn sign language as a way of communicating with deaf people. Finally, it can be concluded that the beneficiaries of the linkage project expressed interest in learning sign language. However, it is possible that these expressions do not fully reflect the complete understanding of the commitment and implications of learning sign language.
