The central objective of this article is to describe the perceptions that university professors have regarding the competences that students develop through the integrality of university functions, which are: Teaching, Research and Extension. The study was carried out using a mixed approach. The results obtained denote that 90% of the teachers conceive Extension and Research as functions that collaborate in the course of the teaching and learning stages, and 10% recognize them as trainers of generic technological competences. It can be concluded that every day it is more necessary to incorporate extension and research activities into the curriculum and plan them, considering the skills that future graduates are expected to develop.  By including these activities in the curriculum structure, they would be given the same importance as teaching, providing equitable opportunities for all students to participate and develop skills in research and outreach.
