Objective: To characterize sociodemographic aspects and levels of overload of caregivers of older adults attending the Santiago Apóstol parish of the Diocese of Pasto. Materials and methods: The study sample consisted of 40 caregivers of older adults attending the parish, applying a sociodemographic survey to identify sex, age, gender, level of schooling, housing, socioeconomic status, health affiliation, occupation, dependents and diagnosis, and the application of the Zarit scale, which consisted of 22 multiple-choice questions to measure caregiver overload. Results: 40% of the caregivers presented intense overload. Conclusions: caregiving is important for the caregiver’s physical, mental and social well-being, which has an impact on the care received by the elderly.
