The research allowed us to understand which teaching and learning strategies are used by teachers of the Faculty of Health Sciences in the classroom to achieve competences. The objectives were focused on describing the conceptions of curriculum and appropriate competences for teachers, determining the teaching and learning strategies applied in the development of the micro curriculum and, finally, identifying if they contribute to the learning by competences of the students. The methodology was based on the qualitative paradigm with historical hermeneutic approach and a type of ethnographic research applied to education; the analysis and interpretation of the information confirmed the importance of teacher training and determine the teaching and learning strategies most used in the classroom, such as the master lecture and the laboratories, as well as establishing their contribution to participation and training of students by competencies.
