In every academic context reading comprehension is immersed; hence, knowing how to read and understand is of great relevance, as two actions that play a fundamental role in school life, because thanks to this, knowledge and learning are developed. This investigative process sought to strengthen reading comprehension in fifth grade students from a rural sector. The methodological design of the research was proposed from a qualitative paradigm of a descriptive and ethnographic approach. 25 students from the Jesús Nazareno Educational Institution of El Tambo - Nariño were taken as the unit of analysis. As information gathering techniques, a diagnostic test and non-participant observation were used. After having collected and analyzed the information, the factors, interests and needs of the students were considered to design and apply the virtual strategy ‘Friends of Reading’.
