Características sociolaborales, estilos de vida, y riesgo a desarrollar Diabetes mellitus en trabajadores informales de la plaza de mercado Potrerillo de la ciudad de Pasto 2023

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic non-communicable disease that occurs because the body is not able to use efficiently the insulin it produces; this pathology has become a worldwide public health problem. Annually, 2 million people die from this cause, predominantly in underdeveloped countries. Objective: To determine the socio-occupational characteristics, lifestyles and risk of developing diabetes mellitus in informal workers in Potrerillo market place in Pasto 2023. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional observational study with a quantitative approach was carried out with a sample of 94 informal workers of the Potrerillo Marketplace, who responded to the Findrisk test for diabetes screening, the Fantastic Test and the informed consent. Results: 72.3% were female, 30.9% had incomplete primary education, 60.6% belonged to a low socio-economic stratum and 93.6% were affiliated to a subsidised health scheme. Only 38.7% are physically active, 60.4% do not have a balanced diet and 56.3% are overweight. 26% have a high and very high risk of developing diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: The population studied has a high and very high risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus in the next 10 years, possibly due to inadequate lifestyles.
