The purpose of the research was to recognize some factors, relational patterns and habits that the family under investigation had adopted in their daily lives and that made their child’s symptom remain, and once identified, they were understood and modified through the interventions and counseling of the psychologist.The experience was carried out through a single case study, with a family from the Filipense School, in eleven sessions, seven of which were with the parents, and four with the subject who presented the symptom.The methodology was framed from a qualitative methodological paradigm, following an interpretative approach and type of systematization of experiences. The results allowed us to account for several elements that had become dysfunctional within the family and that generated the maintenance of the symptom through their interactions, including patterns of parenting, disempowerment, and overprotection.
