The success of a project is directly related to the levels of similarity between planning and results; that is, that the execution is an X-ray of the preconceived; for this purpose, it is essential to have a monitoring and control system that timely reflects the realities of the project, in addition to allowing the generation of timely interventions, either preventive or corrective. In this sense, the present manuscript, the result of a documentary review, presents the earned value technique, as an appropriate method for this purpose. The results revolve around the unification of its concept, through a triangulation of information, the establishment of limitations in the development of its methodology, and a systematization of successful experiences in different projects. The exercise made it possible to demonstrate the importance of the method, prior articulation of the information systems and the development of qualitative analysis that link their indicators.
