Reading comprehension is the ability that people have to understand what they read; hence, the purpose of the research was to implement a pedagogical project for the development of inferential reading comprehension of children’s stories in students of the third grade of elementary school at the Ana Joaquina Rodríguez Institution in Cañaverales, San Juan del Cesar. Methodologically, the work was located in the qualitative paradigm, in the socio-critical approach, under the pedagogical action research method. To record the results, a field diary, anecdotal record, the rubric, and a checklist were applied. The work unit consisted of 14 third-grade students. The results indicated that they overcame the weaknesses in inferential reading comprehension and it can be concluded that they managed to understand the texts they read, increased their vocabulary, acquired greater verbal fluency, and made inferences and conclusions from the stories they read.
