Description
This paper presents a characterization of the undergraduate students in Business Administration program of the Corporación Unificada Nacional de Educación Superior(CUN), Bogotá - center 2015 from demographic and socioeconomic perspectives. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study in which a questionnaire ad-dressed by active students was used.Demographic profile is determined using basic indicators such as gender, age, marital status, nationality, among others; the socioeconomic one, through stratification, determined by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE, as it is known in Spanish), while the academic profile includes manage-ment tools and a second language.Among the results, in terms of demographic and social variables, it is important to highlight the slightly higher percentage of women studying Business Administration, related to the total number of respondents and the large number of students with children. Regarding economic profile, it was found that the income level of students is mostly between two and four statutory minimum wages5, and on the other side, facing academic profile, a large number of them have evident deficiencies in management a second language.Knowledge of socioeconomic profile becomes a key reference for generating institutional tools to improve the academic performance of students in higher education institutions, and decrease the level of young people leaving university life.
