The aim of this article was to conduct a systematic review of the development of the concept of the social brain over time. This review was conducted through an exhaustive bibliographic search of several scientific databases containing publications on the social brain. It should be noted that the social brain has been the subject of studies from different fields of knowledge. First, the brain was studied individually; later, the study of the interaction between one brain and another, even between groups of people, was initiated. On the other hand, technological advances, such as the accessibility of a scientific database, have brought about an incredible change in social and cultural structures in record time. It is expected that there will be further advances in the different branches of neuroscience that can shed light on the concept of the social brain. In conclusion, the social brain is considered fundamental to the understanding of social behavior because it is related to the ability of human beings to interact with other individuals, to communicate, and to experience different types of affection and approaches with other people in the environment. Thus, the social brain allows us to understand social phenomena and social interaction because it makes it possible to determine how people attribute mental states to themselves and to others to predict how others behave.
