  Sex education as part of formal schooling and its importance in training comprehensive children and adolescents is the object of study in this article of bibliographic review. For the development of this article was needed the organization and analysis of studies and papers related to this topic whose publications were between the years 2006 and 2021 from databases or repositories such as Dialnet, PubMed, Library, Scielo, Elsevier, Google Scholar, Scopus, and the websites of the United Nations Organization, the World HealthOrganization and UNICEF. More than 90 articles were reviewed but only 75 met the selection criteria. Based on this review it was established that sexuality education should aim to train individuals capable of making decisions free of stereotypes recognizing their natural changes and assuming their own identity. This goal will be achieved if children and adolescents know their bodies, value themselves, know their anatomy and make responsible decisions based on respect and self-esteem. For those reasons, it must be strengthened from school their knowledge in biological function and other strategies that allow the management of psychological and social aspects that are related to sexuality. This review will open the space for the generation of inclusive educational projects that guarantee the integral development of learners.
