Since 2014, the civil society of the municipality of Valparaíso in the department of Caquetá, Colombia, has demonstrated against the exploitation of oil. The social struggle for the defense of the territory has attracted the attention of different institutions and non-governmental organizations, and although the results have not been as expected by the local population, the peasants continue persevering in the objective of ‘not to oil, yes to the lifetime’. At present there is no systematic record of the dynamics of this process in the light of the different actors, elements that can serve as a reference to other movements that fight for the conservation of their territory. The paradigm that founded the present investigation was the historical hermeneutics; type of qualitative research, case study method, and as instruments for the gathering of the information, the in-depth interview was carried out with key actors and file check.The lack of willingness of the central government to dialogue and find a negotiated solution is one of the most important findings, since the answers have been related to coercive mechanisms.
