This article analyzes the impact that exports have on Colombian economic growth, using the variables Traditional exports, Non-traditional exports, Exchange rate and GDP during the years 2000-2008, to estimate an econometric model and determine that exports generate economic growth.In this sense, it is concluded that exports have a positive relationship with respect to GDP in the study period, according to the assertions of the classics Adam Smith and David Ricardo, who argue that these directly affect national production, considering as beneficial that each country specializes in the production of the good that has a comparative advantage over others; that is to say, the production of the goods must correspond to the country in which the production cost is lower, which shows an advantage in international trade.
