The present study aimed to determine the quality of life of patients with type II diabetes mellitus in a third level hospital in the city of Pasto, in the period between March and July 2014, for which a sociodemographic characterization was made. The level of functionality, dependence and cognitive status were identifi ed. In the methodology the quantitative paradigm was used, analytical empirical approach, of descriptive type; the sample consisted of 67 patients.The results showed a predominance of the female gender with ages between 60 and 75 years old, with a complete primary schooling, mostly married and dedicated to the household. Regarding the level of functionality, we found low dysfunction and minimal percentage of cognitive impairment. With regard to quality of life, positive perception was obtained for the physical, social and spiritual dimensions and negative perception for the psychological dimension.Key words: quality of life, type II Diabetes Mellitus, non-transmissible chronic disease, positive and negative perception, physical, psychological, social, spiritual dimensions.
