The main objective of this research was to determine the occupational interests of a group of adults over 60 years of San Juan de Pasto, Colombia; this is being done under a prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive and exploratory study; 426 elderly residents were evaluated in this community. The sam-pling was non-probabilistic, convenience and quotas, in twelve districts of the city, stratified by age and sex. To explore the occupational interests the modified list of interests of Kielhofner was applied. It evidenced greater participation in leisure activities with minimum physical effort, compared to the interest shown by personal training activities. In general they have preference for walking (94%), wat-ching television (88.9%), listening to radio and music (85%) and doing activities of the church (84%).It can be concluded that seniors of this city have low motivation and interest in participating in activi-ties that may encourage their active aging and prevent cognitive and functional impairment, so it is re-commended to develop occupational programs according to the interests and needs of the population.Key words: elderly, interests, occupational areas, leisure and recreation.
